Scratch video was a genre of audio-visual artworks flowering out of the U.K., primarily in South London. Not long after the Brixton riots and as VCR systems were flooding into homes, politically charged mash-ups were crafted using the sights and sounds of household television. Splicing deep-dive video clips with underground music created high impact shorts often played in night clubs and later galleries.
